If soul = ham, then soldier = hamster?

I’ve always liked the refrain, “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier” from the song, “All These Things That I’ve Done” by The Killers.  


Seemed pretty catchy and cool…until I heard what comedian Bill Bailey said about the lyrics:

They're meaningless and might as well be, "I got ham, but I'm not a hamster."  Listen for yourself.

Sigh.  Can’t argue with that kind of logic.  So much for thinking I’m cool.  Still, it IS pretty catchy...
