I made a surprising discovery while looking at this page in the Office Cheesy Vendor Calendar. When I was trying to match the greenish-brown background I was quite surprised to find the matching color on this particular strip. I love the darker green, but not particularly the lighter, more yellow-y version.
Bonus assignment: What is a hue that you like when it is dark, but not so much as its lighter version (or vice versa)?

Surprise! It's Yelling Girl
Here's a multi-media journal page thingy I made a long time ago that I just uncovered while cleaning my studio. Yay for fun surprises! I love this zany little girl...and the combination of orange and pink...and using staples instead of glue...and fake rhinestones...and butterflies...and ephemera...and hand stamped paper.

Pink, pink and more pink
I love how we don't see the actual power lines, just their reflections in the window and their shadows on the bricks.
It looks as if this photo was altered, but this is just how it came out.
Again, I thought the shadow on the building looked cool:

Flowers sprouting from the very walls...
Maxine created what may be the coolest wall embellishments on the entire planet. On her pink wall, just as you walk into her shop, she painted abstract flower patterns and then glued beautiful vintage silk flowers on top. I'm pretty sure one day, probably right in the middle of something I'm supposed to be doing, I will grab some paint and try emulating this effect on my stairwell with the robin's egg blue walls...

Pinks
Doesn't this plant look like something from the movie Avatar? I took this picture in Seattle's Capital Hill area. I was running late for a little get-together, but had to stop and whip out my little camera when I saw them:

A Match Made in Heaven
I bought this delightful weathered metal trash can from the Salvage Studio when their retail store was open. At first I used it as an actual trash receptacle (imagine that!) until one day I needed an oversized vase for an enormous bunch of silk flowers. I went into that scary place in my head, where I start seeing ordinary objects off-kilter, that place where nothing is safe...(run kitties, run!)... when I had a brainstorm to use said trash can as said oversized vase:

The flowers looked fabulous in it...and then when I placed the funky little ceramic bird in front of it...well, it was kizmet, fate, karma! They obviously belonged together forever and ever. Well, until I get a wild hair to redecorate, that is...

Signs of Spring
One of the things I love about living in the Pacific Northwest is how early the signs of spring appear. It's only mid-February and goodness knows half the country is still recovering from horrible snowstorms, and we've got tons of plants in bloom already. During a quick walk at lunchtime I found these on the ground.
I'm no plant expert but I believe these are camellia blossoms.
I need these petals identified STAT!
