Funky Urban Greenery

Oddball graffiti, murals and signs around town:

On a railroad car:

On a bank:

In front of a business:

And what is the deal with this hooded cat-monster?  I see it all over the place.

Georgetown Earthtones

Captured this king of the forest:

Captured this little golden purrbox who didn't want to be captured:

Wasn't hard to capture this raku pot:

...or this metal flower:

...or this cast cross planted in a section of terra cotta pipe:

...or this uncommonly dark little plant:

It WAS hard to capture the dewdrops on a spider's web:

Perfect Pairs: Wet!

Yeah, it rains a lot up here...but then things look like this...so here is a little refreshment for those of you suffering through the dog days of summer:

Singing the blues

From my collection, a small sampling of blue beach glass and other found objects...notice the little ceramic animal head?

A closeup of the mosaic on the Kirkland Public Library:

A woebegone skein of yarn near a Michael's craft store:

Natural blue beauty:

Unnatural blue beauty:

From a playground:

I love the diffuse, shimmery effect of the actual water over the word:

Signs that make you look twice

Looks like this sign got a dose of its own medicine:

Wouldn't it be a hoot to drive this van?

Not sure I would trust this company with my RV repair:

Cool graffiti...I like the 3 vertical crowns and the dog drinking a beer:

Fremont & Kirkland...2 places I spend a lot of time

Yes, those ARE chairs nailed to a tree. No, a tornado did NOT blast through town.  The owner of an artist coop in Fremont embellished this tree thusly:

I liked the contrasting shapes and shadows in this recycle bin:

And what a cool metal fence!  These mini-sculptures are all over the top.

Love the old globe lights on this historical building:

Very fun garden art made out of repurposed ashtrays, serving plates and a door knob:

I got a jones for cool home address displays:

Even more reds in Georgetown

This embellished window was sighted during the Georgetown Garden Tour; isn't it just fantastic?  After careful scrutiny, we artgirls decided it looked like someone had used gel medium to secure the pressed flowers to the glass.  Now of course I'm on a hunt for an old window to try this...

I loved this chippy old shrine / birdhouse / architectural sample:

I love the crazy combination of fake ducks and real goldfish:

There's so much big, rusty, industrial "junk" in Georgetown...the lines and textures intrigue me:

Crazy Yellow Stuff

Somehow this bizarre little doll caught my eye as I walked down an alley in Fremont.  The window sill was up pretty high, so I didn't see the x-acto blade or rubber band until I downloaded the photo and enlarged it.  What kind of story is this little vignette trying to tell us???

And these great ski boot planters are in front of Mountain to Sound, a West Seattle kayak and ski rental shop:

And this...I just loved the soft pink and yellow tones together:

And really...have you EVER seen a more fun falafel truck???  No, I didn't think so!

A little treasure in the unlikeliest place:

A big treasure in a very likely place:
