Browns Around Town

I love the way the leaves and vines are held in place:

A prayer wheel, reflecting late afternoon sun:

Usually I photograph things just as I find them, but in this case, I have to admit the right half of the heart was askew, so I moved it to be a clearer heart shape.

This endearing engraving is found by some sewers in the Seattle area, reminding people that wildlife are affected by what we wash away:

I love these weathered, sunbleached leaves sandwiched between glass and behind glass in the back of an old warehouse.

The layers of metal, shadows, clear and striated glass caught my eye:

I was so tickled at how this shot looks so "artsy", with the stems getting increasingly blurry with distance. At least I think it's artsy (could be the joke's on me and it's just a blurry picture!)

I know it's nasty trash, but it's COOL, RUSTY nasty trash:

Pinks

Doesn't this plant look like something from the movie Avatar? I took this picture in Seattle's Capital Hill area. I was running late for a little get-together, but had to stop and whip out my little camera when I saw them:

.
Closeup of a "wing" I created with dozens and dozens of velvet leaves:.
Chippy painted curbs faded from red to pink:
Totally showing off how cool my new, inexpensive camera is with this nifty closeup!
.
Blossoming cherry trees are everywhere in Seattle in the spring:

Pink Yabas...not easy to find. I have no idea what the pottery shard in the middle is from...

Not-So-Mellow Yellow

I confess I've had more than my share of uncharitable thoughts when I've seen these yellow flags posted by crosswalks in the Seattle suburbs.

The point is for intrepid pedestrians to gamely pluck one from its holder on Side A of the crosswalk, gravely wave the yellow flag to alert inattentive drivers of their presence as they risk their very lives by crossing the street on the yellow lines, and then gratefully deposit said life-saving yellow flag on Side B of the street for the next death-defying pedestrian to use.

Yes Gentle Readers, I admit, I mocked the whole idea of these flags. Now in my defense, I gotta tell you that Seattle drivers are among the MOST POLITE on the planet. I've had many a car screech to a halt 50 feet away from me because I had dared to stick one foot over the curb. In Boston or Rome? Oh yeah, I'd gladly do what I could to stack the odds in my favor. But Seattle? Really? Really?

But then as I was taking pictures, I saw the statistics saying that 62 people who were "not carrying a flag" had been injured...and suddenly I didn't feel quite so smug. I'm not emotionally evolved enough to say that I completely repent for my ill-advised mockery, or that I would actually USE a yellow flag, but I promise not to think uncharitable thoughts any more about those who use them...or at least I promise to TRY...

Poiple Passion

Did you ever notice how much more fun it is to say "poiple" rather than "purple"? It's a great cheap thrill...try it sometime. In fact, why not try it right now? Go ahead...say "poiple". There! Wasn't that fun? I told you it would be! Let's say it together: "poiple, poiple, poiple". It's fun...it's free...and it's low-carb. Try it any time you need a little fun in your day. "Poiple, poiple, poiple, poiple, poiple, poiple"...
